Having been a huge fan of JD Wilke's main band "Th' Legendary Shack Shakers" it was very unlikely that I was not going to enjoy this album. The band, who consist of JD Wilkes on banjo, his wife Jessica on mandolin and best friend Layne Hendrickson on washtub bass, are as raw and acoustically brilliant as you would think.
It's a married cousin of the Shack Shakers with a toned down front man and more controlled acoustic sound. The album consists of 10 tracks and unfortunately the album ends way too soon, but while it lasts it's a great record with a bluegrass, hillbilly influenced traditional banjo stomping sound.
And on stage the band are just as brilliant with an innocent Jessica on the one side and a sturdy, bold Layne on the other, the Dirt Daubers are the real deal and will hopefully be putting out many more records and shows to come. A ten out of ten album!

UK rockabilly kings "Jack Rabbit Slim" have just released their brand new album "Hairdo's & Heartaches" on Western Star Records which is getting lots of airplay on BBC Radio and loads of online rockabilly radio stations.
The band will be having a live BBC radio session on Radio Cambridgeshire on Friday the 12th of February so keep your ears open for that.
The band also just recently played at top model Daisy Lowe's 21st birthday party to a packed celebrity audience of film and tv stars, musicians and famous models. Supposedly the event was an amazing evening with famous stars strutting their stuff to Jack Rabbit Slim tracks such as "21st Century Bettie Page" and "Skin".
TH' LEGENDARY SHACK SHAKERS NEW SONG (AND ALBUM)

That's right folks, Th' Legendary Shack Shakers will be releasing a brand new album on the 13th of April entitled "Agridustrial" and it promises to be one killer album. Not that the Shack Shakers have ever disappointed in any of their releases, and this one sounds like it is going to be as good if not better than previous ones.
And if you want to get a taste of this new album then visit the band's brand new website at www.theshackshakers.com and join the mailing list. This in turn will give you a link to download the song "Sin Eater" from the new album. You will be blown away!
For more info on the new album read the press release below:
"Picture it: the rustic grind of rural America. The cacophonous crunch and wheeze of motor-driven rock songs accompany the sound of corroded farm implements awakened to service once again. The soundtrack of a time when strip malls will choke with ivy and the vestiges of overdevelopment will be razed and plowed up for acreage. The Legendary Shack Shakers confront an America that is in decay on their seventh full-length album, AGRIDUSTRIAL.
AGRIDUSTRIAL is the statement of an American band fighting back against a society gone mad with greed and the usurpation of basic human dignities. The southern ethos is set on high, as the band explores the stories and values of those that have trod the path from our agrarian past, as testimony to those that will have to live it again. There are songs that praise Jesus (“Sin Eater”) and southern-fried provocateurs (“Dixie Iron Fist”). “Hoboes Are My Heroes” is borne from singer J.D. Wilkes’ recent experience of riding the rails to absorb the rustic rhythm of that life. “Nightride” recounts the history of Kentucky’s infamous vigilante farmer’s union, the Night Riders, who wreaked havoc on non-union tobacco farms in the early 1900’s. Time and again, the band looks at their recession-ravaged homeland with a mix of love, anger and prescience.
Even the sound of AGRIDUSTRIAL is a direct response to the present day recession in foreshadowing the looming collapse that awaits to return us back to self-sufficiency. The band went to a blacksmith forge and recorded the sounds of hammers, anvils, tongs, cranks and chains for much of the percussion on the album. Bassist Mark Robertson produced the album, doing a tasteful job of marrying the band’s hard driving rock sound with these organic flourishes. Also key to the band’s sound is the work of new guitarist Duane Denison, whose playing shows ferocity and subtlety in equal measure. In addition to being a member of the Legendary Shack Shakers, Denison is a member of the Jesus Lizard (fresh from one of the most lauded tours of 2009) and Tomahawk. The Legendary Shack Shakers had already earned high praise as one of the best live acts around, with both Jello Biafra and Hank Williams III calling, J.D. Wilkes “the best front man in the world.” Robertson combines with drummer Brett Whitacre to form the Shack Shakers thundering rhythm section. It’s been said many times, but never so sincerely; this is a band that you must not miss live.
“The Hills Of Hell” from this album tells of two true tales of crucifixion, among other horrors, from Wilkes’ home state of Kentucky. As this country, and especially those who have built it with their sweat and toil contemplate whether they are indeed being crucified on a different type of cross of gold than William Jennings Bryan contemplated, AGRIDUSTRIAL will serve as a punch in the face, a savage rejoinder during tough times, but ultimately as a welcome home to a way of life that sustained a region and a nation before it all got away from us."

Another band that has joined the rockabilly and psychobilly style in to one. The Reckless One's latest release "Make Your Move" has 8 up-beat tracks of horror influenced rockabilly with a dark, moody vocal style. If the Misfits were to play rockabilly this might be what you'll get. But not to take anything away from the Reckless Ones, this band and and album is as fresh and original as you're going to get.
Their live shows are just as good and this album compliments the band and their unique style. Get it now at www.recklessones.com.

The Hard Fall Hearts are a band that don't quite fall into the psychobilly genre nor do they fall into the rockabilly genre but will appeal to fans of both. Thier latest album "Last 24 Hours" is an awesome mix of up-tempo and groove-driven rockabilly.
The vocals have a pleasant originality and if you're a fan of Tiger Army you will love them. The 11 track CD throws some surprises your way with the unusual rhythm of the intro for the song "Last 24 Hours" and the songs "Brokedown" and "Back To You" will get you on the dancefloor in no time.
The production of the album is top notch with a great sounding upright bass that blends well with the drums. You really can't go wrong with this album so do yourself a favour and go see the band live and purchase "Last 24 Hours".
